About
Davis Women in Computer Science (WiCS) is a club at UC Davis that supports, empowers and motivates the growing community of women in Computer Science. Our goal is to foster an environment for girls to explore opportunities in the tech field, help each other to learn code and solve problems, and overall gain a support system and network on campus.
Challenge
The organization is relatively new and has a temporary website for students to gain insight and information about the club.
Davis WiCS previous website
As the Design Director, I saw an opportunity to develop a new and updated website that had room to be more active and engaging for students. The goal of the new website was to be simple, informative, and appealing to students - (especially during the pandemic because new students can only interact with clubs online)

Style Guide
Concept
Because we did not have much content (photos/videos) to feature on the site, I wanted to create an illustrative representation of WiCS as our main cover. I thought a fun way to represent our club was to use familiar elements that you’d see specifically at our school and department. Bringing some of the personality from our UC Davis campus and students into the illustration aimed to engage viewers and even potentially give them something they might identify or connect with!
Graphic Elements
The concept of the cover is a top view of a female student studying CS at UC Davis. I illustrated items like a hydroflask - a common water bottle you’ll spot anywhere at my school, a UC Davis student lanyard, notes from class (I chose ECS 122a - Algorithm Design & Analysis), and of course a laptop! The details, like the cow print and class notes were placed to truly capture the essence of being at Davis and bring in Relatability with taking the courses in our program and having an interest in Computer Science.
Wireframe Mockup
For the body of the website, I developed a wireframe mockup and broke up sections on the main page to provide different information on the club, events for the quarter, and how to connect further with the organization. I also included a section to showcase a collage of photos from the club so that quality of images aren’t disrupting.
